Orange Blossom Tree

Here’s a digitally-colored illustration of an orange blossom tree I sketched. (Or maybe those are clementines!)

I must be loving orange and yellow of late since my last post had the same color-scheme!

Warm Botanicals

This piece is for a friend of mine–it might have the honor of appearing on her desk at work!

I noticed the style of this illustration is the combination of Rifle Paper Co. and Riley Sheehey–bright florals and a nice outlined, sketchy look.

I rediscovered Riley’s work recently–she designed the patterns of KJP’s new spring dresses, which are kinda cute! I read a few of her blog posts and it’s so refreshing to know she has experienced the same struggles I have in areas of illustration and faking it till you make it. Nice to know everyone isn’t as polished as their Instagram account 😉

(Do you think I put enough links in this post?!)

Orange Blossom – Flower Series No. 28

Right around the time I discovered citrus fruits grow on trees (and why wouldn’t they?!), I thought it would be pretty cool to have a tree like that in your backyard. Sadly, the PNW just isn’t the right environment for citrus fruits to grow in. Down south, however, they grow much more heartily! Maybe I should move? (Just kidding!)

This illustration was done in gouache, which I am more and more coming to appreciate. What’s better than a paint that works like watercolor and acrylic?! It’s the best of both worlds.

Also, IT’S DAY 28 OF THIS CHALLENGE!!!

Try Something New – Oil Painting

Oil painting has intrigued me for quite awhile, and I’m proud to say I’ve finally done it! 🙂

Here’s the verdict: oil painting is a rich and creamy medium, and I’m sure it can produce amazing results, but it isn’t suited for someone like me, who likes to finish a painting in one sitting. Nonetheless, I will still dabble in it, I think. I enjoy a bit of abstraction sometime!

Here’s another shot, sitting on a tiny easel from Joann’s.

To all the oil painters out there, kudos to you for your patience. I mean that.

And if you want to see one of my favorite oil painters, check out Janet Hill!

Spring? Just kidding, winter’s still here.

Yes, this is rough. Like a lot of stuff I share 🙂

I still cannot get past the fact that on my weather app, all I see is rain and 40 degree days. Brr.

Oh. Just so you know, this is colored with COLORED PENCIL. That’s right, the medium I don’t like so much. I’d say I need a lot more practice, that’s for sure.
